Jaime Alguersuari and Sébastien Buemi started alongside one another on the grid in fifteenth and sixteenth places, so maybe they should have kept in mind the Golden Rule that when you are close together, you should at least ensure you get through the opening lap without tripping over one another. Unfortunately, in today’s German Grand Prix, the Golden Rule was not obeyed.

Sébastien had made a good start, moving ahead of a few cars, but coming into the hairpin on the opening lap, there was a bottleneck, which is a regular feature of races at this track. Sébastien was at the back of this little group and had to brake hard, but Jaime, coming along behind him was unable to stop in time and drove over his team-mate’s rear wing. Both men had to pit: the damage to Buemi’s STR5 was terminal, while Alguersuari was able to continue after changing the nose and switching to the soft compound tyres. After fighting his way past those cars he had out-qualified on Saturday, there was not much more he could do and, despite posting some quick lap times, he had to settle for fifteenth place. A really disappointing day for the team, but at least we only have to wait a few days to try and do better, as practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix, the twelfth round of the world championship, gets underway this coming Friday in Budapest.
The 67-lap race ended in a one-two finish for Ferrari, with Fernando Alonso on the top step of the podium, Felipe Massa in second place, and Red Bull Racing’s Sebastian Vettel third. When the red lights went out, Vettel on pole had his hands full trying to fight off Fernando Alonso who squeezed past in between the German’s car and the right hand side of the track. But in the meantime, faced with a clear track ahead of him, Felipe Massa steered his Ferrari into the lead which he then held until after the halfway point. However, Alonso seemed to have a bit more pace and when this was pointed out to the Brazilian over the radio, the Spaniard took the lead which he kept to the flag. Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button finished fourth and fifth to help McLaren maintain their lead in the Constructors’ championship. Webber, Kubica, Rosberg, Schumacher and Petrov filled the remaining points positions.
Now, the majority of the Toro Rosso crew return to our base in Faenza, prior to heading off on Tuesday to Budapest, where they will find the race cars and equipment awaiting their attention in the Hungaroring paddock.
