By The Wheelmaster

Wheel for Automotive more or less started with this sweet-classic 1885 Benz Patent Motorwagen by Karl Benz’s . This father of  Mercedes  designed all kinds of vehicle from horse-carriage , bicycle and lastly and successfully Automobile.

The three-wheel vehicle used bicycle-like wire wheels, which were fitted with hard rubber.

Speaking of rubber, the first people who thought about using it for automobile purposes were André and Edouard Michelin, who later founded the famous tire company. In 1910, the B.F. Goodrich Company invented longer life tires by adding carbon to the rubber.

Jaime Alguersuari (STR5-03) Pos. 13th
“I tried to get points today, but in the end it wasn’t possible as I made a mistake lapping a Hispania, who was slower than me and was shown the blue flag, but he moved from side to side. I tried to get past on the right, but he came back on me and touched my wing, which is how I lost it.  We tried to switch to Intermediates before everyone, but in the end I had to pit for an additional set. I did what I could in what was a crazy race. On the slick tyres, we were really fast and I got past Sutil and there were some good passing moves, but I’m disappointed with the result. Now we go tomy home race in Barcelona where I hope to challenge for points again.”

Malaysian Grand Grix

Jaime Alguersuari popped his F1 points cherry today with a fine drive to ninth place in the Malaysian Grand Prix, with team-mate Sebastien Buemi coming home eleventh.

“This is boring, talk to me.” Those were the words of the points scoring Jaime Alguersuari to his race engineer, with about 20 laps remaining of the Malaysian Grand Prix, in which he finished ninth and Sébastien Buemi eleventh. Truth is, our young Spaniard was worried about losing concentration, but his actual words could not have been further from the truth, as he had some cracking battles throughout the 58 laps of what was a very exciting race, even without a single drop of rain falling on the Sepang track.

By The Wheelmaster

After looking at so many wheels on so many cars, I just had a curious question popped up in my curious mind. How is the first wheel in the history looked like??? It must be pretty awesome to know what kinda material they used and what kinda design was it? So, one lazy afternoon here I am at the computer looking for some info. And Dang!.. the (more or less) wheel in the history of mankind… CLASSIC….

Based on diagrams on ancient clay tablets, the earliest known use of this essential invention was a potter’s wheel that was used at Ur in Mesopotamia (part of modern day Iraq) as early as 3500 BC. The first use of the wheel for transportation was probably on Mesopotamian chariots in 3200 BC. It is interesting to note that wheels may have had industrial or manufacturing applications before they were used on vehicles. (more…)
